St. Robert's Open Day Flower festival and photo exhibition The Open Day offered an opportunity to visit St. Robert’s Church and what a success it was!! The programme included a flower festival in the church and a photo exhibition covering over 50 years of parish history in the hall. Visitors could also have a stroll around the gardens followed by a cup of tea and a chat with some of the parishioners. St. Robert’s was open from 10 am till 4 pm, and throughout the day, visitors came with a steady flow to have a look at what we had to offer. The weather was kind to us and the atmosphere was welcoming! It was marvellous to see so many people enjoying our beautiful church and its surroundings. Johnny Doherty CSSR Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe everything I have commanded you. And know that I am with you always to the end of time. (Mat 28:19,20) With this scripture passage, we were reminded of our own call to evangelise, our own call to reach out and share God’s love with others, knowing that, by keeping truthful to his words – go, make disciples, baptise them and teach them - He would be with us to the end of time. Then, while in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, all the street names in our parish were read and we were invited to “reach out” in our prayers for all those that live around us. Finally, teas and coffees in the “Tea Room” provided an excellent opportunity to have a chat with friends and visitors. (poster) (photos) (back to top) Feast day of St. Robert of Newminster Mass of Thanksgiving celebrated by Bishop Kevin Dunn, and with Fr. Johnny Doherty preaching Including all those that served in the parish, lived in the parish, were ordained in the parish, or were connected with this parish in some way, there were about 20 priests celebrating Mass alongside Bishop Kevin. Also, ministers from other faiths were invited to join us in our celebrations, as well as former parishioners and friends. Afterwards everybody was treated to a superb buffet meal in the hall, accompanied by the talented jazz band OCTAV. It was surely an evening to remember! Pilgrimage to Newminster Abbey Out thanks to George Thornton for organising the parish pilgrimage to Newminster, for his erudite explanation of monastic life and St. Robert and a big thanks as well to Fr. John Cooper and the parishioners of St. Robert of Newminster Morpeth who hosted us and guided us. It was a tremendous day not just with the glorious weather but with the walk, talk, Mass and community spirit. (photos of the ruins) (photos) (back to top)
