Past Events in 2005

What's been happening at St. Robert's? You can find a list below and why not have a look at the photos?

Twelfth Night Ball

8th January

The Twelfth Night Ball had virtually non-stop music for some three hours, largely provided by the splendid OCTAV band, who did play on, entertaining a packed hall of parishioners and friends whose ages ranged from seven to seventy. The hall was magnificently decorated, but the important element was the dancing: whirling waltzes, quirky quicksteps, sober slow-foxtrots, tempestuous tangos, slinky salsas, syncopated sambas and rumbustious rock n' roll. The whole gamut of the ballroom was there, including the gorgeous dresses and evening suits. A wonderful evening and many thanks to all connected with the Vaulting Ambition Theatre Company, who made it such as night to remember. OCTAV funds were helped and we also raised £100 for the Tsunami relief fund.

Burns Night Ceilidh

29th January

Not exactly your traditional Burns Night, but nonetheless a very good evening indeed! Accompanied by an Irish band, parishioners enjoyed an evening of Irish music and dancing. Thanks once again to the Vaulting Ambition Theatre Company for providing us with such an entertaining evening!

Spring Ball

9th April

Once again, the fantastic OCTAV band provided the entertainment, with two hours of stunning music. The hall was packed with parishioners and friends whose ages ranged from seven to seventy, all dancing the night away.... Waltzes, quicksteps, tangos or rock n' roll!! A wonderful evening indeed.... and in the process, church funds were helped!

Brian, Peter, Dorothy and Dorothy's Reception into the Church

21st October 2004, 4th May and 18th May 2005

Let us all welcome Brian Field, Peter, Dorothy Smith and Dorothy Sutcliffe into our community! Last year, on October 21st, Brian was received into the Catholic Church at St. Robert's. This year, on May 4th, it was Peter and Dorothy's turn, followed by Dorothy on May 18th. Their courageous commitment and response to the call of Christ has encouraged all of us to put real meaning and purpose into the renewal of our own faith.

Healing service

8th May

This service offered all those that attended the opportunity to pray for healing, for themselves and others, either physical or spiritual healing in front of the Blessed Sacrament. ‘If I can only touch his cloak, I shall be well again.’ (Matthew 9:22).

1st Communions

22nd and 29th May

We would like to congratulate all 28 children who received their First Communion this year. Definitely a day to be remembered... mammies and daddies, brothers and sisters, grannies and gran-dads, all packed themselves into St. Robert's and waited with eager anticipation. Both Masses were really special, with all the children participating fully, and  the reassuring presence of Sr. Anne McCarthy and all other catechists meant they performed all their readings and singing with great confidence and enthusiasm. Congratulations to all!

Catholic Faith exploration (CaFE) Course

3rd to 31st May

The second module of the CaFE course “Knowing God even better” has now been completed and was enjoyed by all that attended! Each evening started with a video followed by a friendly and informal discussion… and there was also time for a cup of tea with friends! The 5 talks were:

  • Knowing the Father’s love

  • Knowing Jesus as Lord

  • Knowing the Spirit as friend

  • Knowing God's presence

  • Knowing the Great Commission

Vaulting Ambition Garden Party

17th July

St. Robert's Garden was the stage for another of VATCO's productions! This time, friends and families were invited to a fantastic social and fund-raising event, the magnificent, the fantastic, the gorgeous VAULTING AMBITION GARDEN PARTY! There were cream teas, wine tasting, bouncy castle, barbecue, fancy dress competition, dancing to the wonderful company jazz band Octav, and (roll on the drums, please) THE GRAND THESPIAN BALLOON RACE (with fantastic prizes)! It was certainly a day to remember.... and VATCO got the funds they needed to put on their next production! A win-win situation!!
