A look at 2004 |

From the social evenings to the Parish Mission, several events were held at S. Robert's during 2004. This is a very active and lively parish indeed, and the list below includes just some of those events... and why not have a look at our photo gallery? Fr. Michael Hickey's induction 11th February A chance to welcome Fr. Michael Hickey as our new parish priest, the evening included Mass followed by a reception in the hall. (photo gallery) (back to top) 14th August Some parishioners donned their boots and set out from Craster Car park for a walk through the Northumbrian coastal countryside. After a brief welcome stop for liquid refreshment at the Back Bull in Embleton and a leisurely picnic lunch on an almost deserted beach, the party divided. The "long walkers" made their way northwards to Newton, returning to Craster via the Nature reserve, beach and Dunstanburgh Castle, while the "short walkers" omitted the Newton "loop" and returned directly. Everyone enjoyed the day and a great vote of thanks was due to Frank Keegan and Pete Mcternan. Healing service 5th September Whenever Jesus healed anyone, He would always say "your faith has healed you". This service was prepared to help us realise that we've been given by Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, the power to heal. (Photo gallery) (back to top) 13th to 15th September The mission was led by Fr. Johnny Doherty, under the theme "Lord, it's wonderful to be here!". With Mass at 10am and an evening service at 7.30pm, the mission was most extraordinary and life-giving to all those that attended. In the final mission service, Fr. Johnny reminded us that the priorities of the Church are: Building community, ecumenism, marriage and family, children and young people, empowerment of laity and social issues. Annual General Meeting 30th September Organised by the parish pastoral council, this meeting was an opportunity to have a look at what happened in 2003/2004 and plan for the year ahead. (Photo gallery) (back to top) Parish walk II - The return of the ramblers 2nd October Once more a group of parishioners assembled at Craster car Park ready to face the elements in an invigorating 7 mile walk. Again led by "routemaster" Frank, we followed the circular route via Howick Hall gardens, across the coast at Sugar Sands and then northwards along the cliff top back to Craster. The walk had everything from torrential rain to beautiful sunshine, from a glorious woodland valley with burgeoning autumn tints to the majestic seascapes along the dramatic Northumbrian Coast. There was even an historical interlude, with a visit to the family grave of the Grey (yes, he who stands on his monument!) and a communing with nature which came in the form of innumerable sea-birds and dozens of seals who were close to the shore as curious about us as we about them! A wonderful day out!!.. 16th October A taste of the "parisienne" lifestyle right here at t. Robert's! Parishioners had the chance to learn some interesting facts about our neighbouring country and its people, while singing and dancing to some of their most famous tunes. CaFE Course - "Knowing God better" From 26th October to 14th December CaFE stands for Catholic Faith Exploration and this video-based course was designed to do just that - to help us become more enthusiastic about our faith in Jesus Christ and to learn something about what evangelisation really means... CaFE was run in a relaxed and welcoming "cafe-style" environment. Each evening, the meeting started with a video, followed by an informal and friendly discussion. An opportunity to deepen our faith, while getting to our fellow parishioners. A "2-in-1" offer no one could miss! "Knowing God better" consists of 7 talks given by David Payne, covering God's Love, Grace and Forgiveness. Knowing God better Knowing God's Love Knowing God's Forgiveness Interested in the CaFE course? The second module will start after Easter. Find more details here. Knowing God's help Knowing God's Word Knowing God's Spirit Knowing God's Hope (Photo gallery) (back to top) Musical evening with Ruth Jenkins 7th November A selection of songs and arias including popular works by Schubert, Mozart and Handel. The evening also included a recorder interlude, with Gaby Wright and Sheila Corbishley and a Jazz interlude by Des McPartlan. 5th December An annual event, our Christmas Fayre is always very enjoyable and an excellent fund-raiser event. The perfect place for all your Christmas shopping! Missed anything? If you would like to add anything else to this list or include some of your own photos just e-mail it to the webmaster. |
