[A brief history|Members|Events 2005] Since the early 70’s, the Fenham Christian Council, comprising Churches in Fenham, Cowgate and Arthurs Hill, had been in existence actively promoting ecumenism. However, in June 1993, a proposal was made to close down this Council for 12 months for reflection. During that period, individual churches would discuss the best way to move forward. It was agreed that a consultation session and a service would be organised around Pentecost 1994.
On April 16th 1994, thirty Christians from 9 churches met to consider what would be done together and what structures would enable that to happen. It was decided to form several clusters, all under the same “umbrella” and representatives of each cluster would meet regularly to discuss ideas. Each cluster would be formed by 2 to 4 churches, working closely together. Only three months later, on July 12th, a meeting took place to put this structure in place and to appoint an executive to co-ordinate the several clusters. This executive would be responsible for planning celebrations together and to provide a way of communication between all churches involved. This gave way to “Churches Together in Fenham”, officially formed in November 1994. Representatives from each church were appointed and the meeting of the first executive took place on November 28th 1994. Since then, Churches Together in Fenham has promoted ecumenism by organising events together and publicising news and events to all churches. See below a list of events for 2005.
