About PPC

[Introduction|Mission and aims|Membership|Meetings]

Introduction

The first Pastoral Council of this parish was established in 2000. This way, both the Parish Priest and members of the parish council (acting on behalf of all parishioners) share responsibility for the parish and plan together for the future of St. Robert’s.

Mission and Aims

The mission of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) is to consider the spiritual and practical needs of St. Robert’s Parish. The PPC should also encourage full participation of parishioners in the life and mission of the parish.

The aim of the Parish Pastoral Council is to serve our Parish Community in a variety of ways:

  • Supporting the work of the Parish Priest, acting as a consultative body in the development of the Parish,

  • Listening attentively to the whole Parish, ensuring that people’s thoughts and feelings are reflected in the work of the Parish,

  • Developing a sense of unity and belonging in our Parish, presenting opportunities for people to contribute and participate,

  •  Serving as an organising and co-ordinating body for all organisations, committees and group activities within the Parish,

  • Making an effort to work with local churches and schools and the wider Community in Fenham,

  • Setting goals and objectives for the Parish,

  • Praying for the people of the Parish,

  • Being aware of the needs of parishioners and discuss ways of meeting them, and

  • Helping the whole Parish meet the challenge of being a Church in the modern world.

Membership

In addition to the Parish Priest, the Council consists of 14 members, representing the various groups and ministries within the entire parish community. Each member serves a 3-year term, and every year, one third of the Council step down and new members are inducted. If necessary, elections are held to choose new members and/or which members of the previous Council (those which have not yet served a 3-year term) will remain another year. During the first meeting after a new Council has been elected, the Chair, the Vice-Chair and Secretary are elected within council members.

Meetings

Regular meetings

Meetings are held every 2 months. All members of the Council may contribute to the agenda, which will be co-ordinated by the Chair, the Secretary and the Parish Priest beforehand. Parishioners are also encouraged to submit items to be discussed during the meeting. Minutes are sent, to each member of the Parish Pastoral Council within 2 weeks after the meeting. A summary of the meeting will also be included in the bulletin and the minutes displayed in its entirety in the notice board at the back of the church.

AGM

The Parish Pastoral Council also hosts an Annual General Meeting, usually in October, where parishioners are invited to share their views and concerns and contribute to plans for the future.
